Rupin Pass Trek is one of the most dramatic and adventurous trekking routes located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Known for its constantly changing landscapes, the trek offers an incredible journey through dense forests, hanging villages, alpine meadows, roaring waterfalls, and high-altitude snowfields.

The trail follows the beautiful Rupin River valley, where trekkers witness stunning waterfalls cascading down steep mountain cliffs. Along the journey, the landscape changes dramatically from lush green forests to vast alpine meadows and eventually to rugged snow-covered mountain terrain.

One of the most exciting highlights of the trek is crossing the Rupin Pass, where trekkers climb through steep snow slopes and reach the summit surrounded by breathtaking Himalayan scenery. The trek also offers spectacular views of prominent peaks and vast mountain valleys.

Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Dhaula

The journey begins with arrival at Dhaula, a small mountain village that serves as the starting point for the Rupin Pass Trek. Trekkers meet the expedition team, complete preparations, and attend a briefing about the trek.

The rest of the day is spent acclimatizing to the mountain environment.

Day 2: Dhaula to Sewa

The trek begins with a gradual walk along the Rupin River valley through scenic mountain trails and dense forests. The route passes through small Himalayan villages and beautiful landscapes.

Trekkers reach Sewa village, where they camp for the night.

Day 3: Sewa to Jhaka Village

The trail continues through dense forests and mountain paths while offering stunning views of waterfalls and valleys. Trekkers eventually reach Jhaka Village, famously known as the “Hanging Village” because of its location on a steep mountainside.

Day 4: Jhaka to Saruwas Thatch

The trek gradually ascends through forests and alpine landscapes toward Saruwas Thatch, a beautiful high-altitude meadow surrounded by majestic mountain views.

The campsite offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

Day 5: Saruwas Thatch to Upper Waterfall Camp

Trekkers continue toward the dramatic Rupin Waterfall, one of the most iconic features of the trek. The campsite is located near the upper section of the waterfall with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.

Day 6: Upper Waterfall Camp to Rupin Pass – Descend to Ronti Gad

This is the most challenging and exciting day of the trek. Trekkers begin early in the morning to ascend toward Rupin Pass.

After crossing the pass, trekkers descend through snowfields into the beautiful Ronti Gad valley, located in Himachal Pradesh.

Maximum Altitude: 15,250 ft

Day 7: Ronti Gad to Sangla Valley

The trail descends through scenic alpine landscapes and mountain valleys toward Sangla Valley, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Day 8: Departure from Sangla

The trek concludes with departure from Sangla Valley, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure through one of the most scenic trekking routes in the Himalayas.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to undertake the Rupin Pass Trek is between May to June and September to October, when the weather remains stable and the trekking routes are accessible.

During these months, trekkers can enjoy clear skies, blooming alpine meadows, and spectacular mountain views.

Rupin Pass Trek is suitable for experienced trekkers and physically fit beginners who are comfortable with high-altitude trekking and challenging terrain.

Due to the pass crossing and steep sections, good physical fitness and proper acclimatization are recommended to safely complete this adventurous trek.
