Swargarohini Trek

A Legendary High-Altitude Expedition Toward the Gateway of Heaven

Swargarohini Trek is one of the most challenging and legendary trekking routes located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The trek is named after the mythical Swargarohini peak, which is believed in Hindu mythology to be the path taken by the Pandavas on their final journey to heaven.

The trail passes through remote valleys, dense forests, alpine meadows, and rugged glacial terrain while offering breathtaking views of towering Himalayan peaks. As trekkers ascend deeper into the high-altitude region, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic with vast glaciers, rocky ridges, and snow-covered slopes dominating the surroundings.

The trek offers magnificent views of prominent Himalayan peaks including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak (Kalanag). The journey through these remote landscapes provides trekkers with an unforgettable experience of raw Himalayan wilderness.

Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Sankri

The journey begins with arrival at Sankri, a small mountain village that serves as the starting point for several treks in the Uttarkashi region. Trekkers meet the expedition team, complete necessary preparations, and attend a briefing about the upcoming trek.

The rest of the day is spent acclimatizing to the mountain environment and enjoying the scenic beauty of the surrounding valleys.

Altitude: 6,400 ft

Day 2: Sankri to Taluka – Trek to Seema

After breakfast, the team drives from Sankri to Taluka, the trekking starting point. From here, the trail follows the Supin River and gradually ascends through dense forests and picturesque landscapes.

Trekkers reach Seema campsite, surrounded by lush greenery and mountain scenery.

Day 3: Seema to Ruinsara Tal

The trek continues through beautiful forests and alpine landscapes as the trail gradually climbs toward Ruinsara Tal, a pristine high-altitude lake surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks.

The campsite near the lake offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 4: Ruinsara Tal to Swargarohini Base Camp

Trekkers continue deeper into the high-altitude region as the trail leads toward the Swargarohini Base Camp. The terrain becomes rugged with glacial formations and rocky ridges dominating the landscape.

Trekkers enjoy spectacular views of the Swargarohini massif and surrounding peaks.

Day 5: Exploration of Swargarohini Region

This day is spent exploring the high-altitude region near Swargarohini Base Camp. Trekkers can witness breathtaking views of towering peaks, glaciers, and vast alpine landscapes.

The area offers an unforgettable experience of the raw Himalayan wilderness.

Day 6: Return to Ruinsara Tal

After exploring the Swargarohini region, the group begins the descent back toward Ruinsara Tal. The return journey offers new perspectives of the surrounding valleys and mountain scenery.

Day 7: Ruinsara Tal to Seema

Trekkers continue descending through scenic forest trails and alpine meadows back toward Seema campsite, enjoying the beautiful landscapes along the route.

Day 8: Return to Sankri

The final trekking day leads the group back toward Taluka and Sankri, marking the end of the Swargarohini Trek.

Trekkers conclude the journey with unforgettable memories of one of the most adventurous and legendary trekking experiences in the Garhwal Himalayas.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to undertake the Swargarohini Trek is between June and September, when the weather conditions are relatively stable and the high-altitude routes become accessible.

During these months, trekkers can experience clear skies, spectacular mountain views, and safer trekking conditions.

Due to the extreme altitude, rugged terrain, and demanding trekking conditions, excellent physical fitness, prior high-altitude trekking experience, and proper acclimatization are essential to safely complete this expedition.
